Background
Academic collaboration between the School of Law at the University of Venda and Mykolas Romeris University of Lithuania continues to be enhanced by means of exchange and collaborations among staff members.
The activities form part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in the last quarter of 2023, which promotes cooperation in teaching, research, curriculum development and staff and student mobility between the two institutions.
In a recent exchange, the School of Law welcomed Professor Jolita Miliuvienė from MRU’s Institute of Public Law. As a legal scholar and an Ombudsman of Parliament in Lithuania, she provided lectures to master of laws students specialized in Human Rights and LLB students on issues of public law and human rights through comparative legal perspectives.
The cooperation was even furthered by Dr Crystal Mokoena from the Department of Public Law at UNIVEN, who took part in a staff mobility program at MRU in Vilnius. She lectured students about the South African Constitution, constitutional court cases, and the inter-African human rights system.
Apart from inside the classrooms, members of faculty from the two universities met with their university management to explore further possibilities of collaboration. Some of the possible collaborative fields in the future include collaborative research, postgraduate supervision, and the creation of new academic programs.
The partnership is an indication of the commitment of UNIVEN to internationalization and global strategic engagements. Through this partnership, the university is expected to improve teaching and research output, and give more chances to students and lecturers.
