Background
MSC Foundation and MSC Cruises have launched Oceans Day powered by MSC Foundation, a new onboard programme aimed at helping children and families learn about and engage with marine conservation through interactive experiences at sea.
The programme rolls out progressively across the MSC Cruises fleet, turning each voyage into an opportunity to connect younger passengers with ocean literacy. It targets children aged 3 to 17 and is expected to reach thousands of children from around the world each year.
Activities include an original song developed with a children’s choir, games, quizzes, creative workshops, drawing sessions and conservation challenges. Children are also invited to make personal pledges through the My Wish for the Ocean initiative and receive an Ocean Ambassador Passport containing practical actions they can carry out at home.
The programme wraps up with a parade where children take center stage, bringing together music and group participation to send environmental messages home in a way that sticks. It draws on MSC Foundation’s conservation work at Ocean Cay in The Bahamas and brings in expertise from organizations including Mission Blue and Marevivo.
It was developed jointly by MSC Foundation and MSC Cruises’ Entertainment team.MSC Foundation Executive Director Daniela Picco said the programme is built on the belief that education is fundamental to long-term ocean conservation, adding that building a deeper connection between children and the sea fosters curiosity and a lifelong commitment to protecting the marine world.
On ships with an MSC Foundation Centre, foundation representatives will join activities directly. The programme will continue to add new experiences over time to keep it relevant for future generations.
