UNICEF Lesotho and the Global Partnership for Education are supporting the Ministry of Education and Training to develop a Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Dashboard and Scorecards, aimed at improving learning outcomes for young children through better use of education data.
The digital platform will track the performance of learners in Grades 1 to 3 across numeracy, Sesotho, English and life skills. By bringing learning data together into a single, accessible system, the dashboard will let schools, education clusters, district officials and national policymakers spot learning gaps earlier, strengthen teacher coaching and direct resources where they are needed most.
The initiative also includes tablets for principals in 300 project schools and cluster mentors, solar power installation in 25 cluster learning spaces, and capacity-building for education personnel to sharpen the collection, analysis and use of foundational learning data.
Officials say the combination of digital tools and stronger data skills is intended to give schools a clearer, real-time picture of how young learners are progressing.
UNICEF said the programme is built to turn timely, reliable learning data into targeted interventions, allowing teachers and education leaders to step in earlier for learners who need extra support.
Rather than waiting for end-of-year assessments to reveal gaps, education officials will be able to track performance throughout the school year and adjust teaching support accordingly.
The initiative aims to lift foundational literacy and numeracy while making sure every learner remains visible in the education system and gets a fair shot at success.
By strengthening how data flows from classrooms to policymakers, UNICEF and GPE expect the dashboard to support more consistent, evidence-based decisions across Lesotho’s education system in the years ahead.
