Key Background:

The Prince Edward Island University (UPEI) has made a massive leap towards being committed to experiential learning as thirteen of its Co-operative Education programs were accredited by Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL). This is a validation of the university’s commitment towards getting students ready to make their transition into the labor market as they combine theoretical learning with practice.

UPEI Co-operative Education courses are designed to alternate work placement and paid study, thereby allowing students to be educated by the real world. In addition to facilitating the acquisition of skills more easily, it also improves networking, thereby making UPEI graduates more job market competitive. Accredited new programs are provided in a wide range of topics to ensure that most of the departments’ students will be able to take advantage of them.

CEWIL accreditation involves careful program review process through workplace placement in quality work, alignment in curriculum, and performance among graduate students. Attaining the quality standards proves the UPEI Co-op programs’ assurance for compliance in Canada’s best practice standards.

UPEI extends and widens its Co-operative Education programs to equip students with the capability of developing career-ready competencies and considerable industry experience. University Co-op Office facilitates this by planning career development workshops, placing students in jobs, and developing strong ties with employers. The process focus equips students with experiential competence and experience to execute active labour market tasks.

With this augmented success, UPEI continues to be at the forefront of work-integrated learning for learners and business clients. This accreditation is an important milestone to the university’s tradition of ongoing development in career-preparedness through experience and training.
