Background
Microsoft is expanding its education strategy by introducing new AI tools, training programs for teachers and special offers for students in K–12 schools and universities. The move supports Microsoft’s goal to build AI skills and better prepare students and educators for future jobs.
The company has launched Elevate for Educators, a global program that brings training, professional certificates, and educator communities under one platform. The program is available now and is open to K–12 teachers, school leaders, and education systems. It is part of Microsoft’s wider plan to help millions of people learn AI skills over the next two years.
Through Elevate for Educators, teachers get free learning resources, access to global communities, and credentials focused on AI literacy and classroom technology. Training is delivered through the AI Skills Navigator, which offers self-paced courses, live sessions, and AI-based practice in more than 13 languages. Microsoft also said a new AI course for special education will launch in 2026.
Microsoft is also adding more AI tools to Microsoft 365 Copilot. A new feature called Teach helps educators create lesson plans, quizzes, and rubrics and adjust reading levels and difficulty using simple AI prompts. The tool is available at no extra cost for education users.
For students aged 13 and older, Microsoft has introduced the Study and Learn Agent. The tool helps students understand concepts, practice skills, and prepare for exams through guided learning and quizzes.
Microsoft confirmed that an academic version of Microsoft 365 Copilot will launch in December 2025 at $18 per user per month. Eligible college students will also get a free 12-month bundle of Microsoft 365 Premium and LinkedIn Premium Career.
Microsoft said early feedback shows these tools save time for teachers and help students focus more on learning.
