Key Background:

Camosun College has earned a prestigious distinction as one of British Columbia’s Top Employers for 2025, marking the first time the institution has been recognized in this category. The honor is bestowed upon the top 100 employers in the province who are recognized for creating outstanding work environments and offering exceptional opportunities for their employees.

Dr. Lane Trotter, President of Camosun College, expressed pride in the recognition, stating, “We are proud to be recognized as one of the top employers in B.C. Camosun is comprised of incredible employees who demonstrate dedication and support to students, the college community, and each other.” This recognition underscores the college’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and dynamic work environment for its approximately 1,400 employees, including faculty, support staff, and administration.

Several factors contributed to Camosun College’s selection as a top employer. One of the standout features is the college’s comprehensive health benefits plan, which includes a mental health practitioner benefit of up to $3,000 annually. Additionally, Camosun offers employees the opportunity to take extra time off for personal or educational purposes through various leave options, including educational leave and self-funded leaves of absence, which can extend up to one year.

Furthermore, the college prioritizes professional development and team building through initiatives such as the annual Conversations Day. This event allows employees to take a day away from work, either in person or remotely, to engage in discussions on a wide range of topics, participate in breakout sessions, and plan at the departmental level. This recognition highlights Camosun College’s unwavering commitment to its workforce and its continued efforts to create a supportive, innovative, and rewarding environment for its employees.
