Coleg Cambria is marking a major milestone in Esports education, celebrating both its students’ national success and the launch of a cutting-edge £230,000 Esports arena at its Deeside campus. The college currently has the biggest Esports student group in Wales, with over 50 learners enrolled from Level 2 to Level 4.
Coleg Cambria began its Esports course in 2021 and has already seen many students continue to university or find jobs in the growing gaming industry. With help from Pearson, students can now study higher courses at Level 4 and 5, making the college a top name in Esports education.
The new Esports arena is a big improvement, giving students modern gaming gear and technology. It has 36 YOYOTECH setups with Intel i7 processors, RTX 4070 graphics cards, MSI accessories, and AOC monitors.
Assistant Principal Lisa Radcliffe said the investment strengthens Cambria’s role as a leader in Esports education. She said the new setup helps with learning and events, giving students real experience and skills for future jobs.
The college’s competitive team, the Cambria Chimeras, has also achieved impressive results on the national stage, including victory in the Apex Legends Spring Cup and a runner-up finish in the Valorant competition, both organised by the British Esports Federation.
Lecturer Lauren Crofts praised the students for their effort and cooperation. The college plans to invite schools from North East Wales to join tournaments at the Deeside campus, giving students real experience in running events.
With Esports set to feature in future Olympic events, Cambria continues to look ahead. Crofts said this is just the start for them.
