Over $50 million will go towards school infrastructure in South Australia, to be spent on urgent upgrading and expansion, thereby increasing the capacity of those schools. The learning environments of most schools will improve due to multi-million dollar improvements in student learning environments.
Announcing an investment in Fairview Park Primary, education minister Blair Boyer states he has committed a $10m funding to renew and replace all of the “quite aged” existing buildings with completely modern state-of-the-art facilities better suited for the community at Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs.
The regional South Australia will not be left out as well with benefits including a Fraser Park Primary School at Murray Bridge, an amount of $10 million of which a segment will be aimed at demolishing old transportable buildings while building a new facility for the preschool. The amount at Mt Barker High School is $5 million for better facilities and space, including among them solving the capacity problems of the school with better facilities in food technology and physical education.
Under the Australian government’s 20-Year Infrastructure Plan for Education and Care, Oakbank School has been allocated $15.9 million for renovation and updating its facilities to accommodate students and teachers better.
The Department for Education will oversee the upgrading of the schools. It will focus on schools with the greatest needs. The money will replace the old infrastructure and upgrade the existing assets to prepare schools for the future.
Planning is already underway to tailor building designs to individual school education and capacity needs. These are part of a broader effort to ensure that all public schools offer quality education in modern, fit-for-purpose environments.
Member for Newland, Olivia Savvas, said these investments were critical for schools like those in her electorate. She pointed out that old infrastructure does not provide for much; the refurbishment will make for good conditions to learn.
